Succulents vs My "Little" Brother

Hey everyone! I am back again with another succulent post, and this one is not limited to ONLY plants. I know that everybody fights with their siblings, and I am no exception. I have a 16-year-old little brother and although he is the light of my life, and we are besties for the resties, he really does get on my nerves sometimes. Because of this, I thought I should compare little siblings, who everyone universally agrees are innately annoying, to succulents, who everyone universally agrees are innately wonderful and easy and great to have.
Succulents are known for not needing much water at all to survive, seeing as they are able to go more than a week without anything to drink! This definitely aligns with their easy-going reputation that everyone constantly raves about. Now my little brother on the other hand, he is a teenage boy. So, needless to say, he eats all the time. I have no idea how he would react to being told he couldn’t eat for two hours, let alone two weeks as we expect succulents to. I think this is an easy win for the succulents on this section of the competition.

Next up, we are going to talk about the typical habits of both my brother and succulents. It is completely accurate that my brother pushes my buttons and knows how to annoy me the most out of anyone. But it is also true that he listens to me when I am upset, and he takes me out for ice cream, and he gives great hugs. Succulents cannot do any of that. They might be quiet and passive and cute from a distance, but they cannot hug you back. And they cannot make you laugh. And they might be good listeners, but they cannot give you the advice that a little brother can. So, although succulents were previously in the lead, this section of the competition definitely ties my brother up with them.

Our final point is the one regarding height. I come from a very tall family, so my “little” brother is 6’6” and still growing (yes, he plays basketball). From a distance, this appears to be really cool considering everyone always says that they wish they were taller. However, it poses a lot of challenges for my brother. He cannot buy pants in-store, he is constantly being asked how tall he is while being bombarded with other comment on his height daily, and he is always overly cautious of how high the ceilings and door frames are so as to make sure he doesn’t hit his head. These are things that he has to deal with every day because of how tall he is, while all we do as bystanders is admire his height. We have to ask him for favors like reaching something on the top shelf or helping us see over those in front of us, which is a huge strength that his height allows him to do those on his own, but everything is a trade-off. Clearly, there are many pros and cons to being tall, just as there are to the small size that most succulents take on. Although succulents do not have as long of a story to go along with their height, they face many challenges with it as well. They get overlooked because they are so little, and they are easily forgotten about. But they have some amazing positives too! Like the fact that they fit in small areas that need decorating, and they are easily transportable, and they make great little gifts too. These are amazing characteristics, just like being tall, but both have aspects that need to be overcome as well, making this last section a tie in the competition.
With the competition ending in an overall tie, that’s all I have for Succulents versus My "Little" Brother.
Now whether this post made you want to go hug your sibling or go buy a succulent, I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading!
