Succulent vs. Sunflower

Hello again SUCCAs! This week’s blog will be comparing Succulent vs. Sunflower. Which one should you buy? Which one is the best fit for YOU? Here I am again, not knowing too much about either one of these, but I am going to do a simple comparison to hopefully get you SUCCAs into making the right decision when buying your first or your next plant. There are a lot of factors that will go into this choice and you will eventually have to choose the right plant one day (well, only if you want to). Keep in mind that if you buy the wrong plant you are stuck with the responsibility of caring for this living organism for the rest of its life. You have to have love for this plant with all of your heart and show true compassion towards it. Therefore, if you choose the wrong one, then you’re just going to make the sunflower, or the succulent, have a miserable life. No pressure though.

As mentioned in my last blog, a significant factor that affects people’s decision on buying a succulent is its low maintenance. Succulents only need to be watered about once every two weeks, while sunflowers need to be watered once a week with at least 1 inch of water or enough to keep the soil moist. If you don’t water a succulent for a few days, it’ll be just fine and will continue to do its thing. If you don’t water a sunflower for a few days, it will wilt, droop, and potentially die. Depending on who you are as a person will determine what option is best. Are you a person who will remember to water your plants every few days or would you rather have that task every two weeks?

Another reason that might determine which plant you buy would be the location. For example, are you wanting to put your plant in a garden or a windowsill? Do you want to put the plant in your kitchen or in your backyard? Do you get an outrageous amount of bug bites and get sunburnt the second you step out the door? You see, these are all very important questions to consider. Sunflowers grow best in locations with direct sunlight. So, if you’re wanting to start from square one and you tend to get bug bites and sunburnt, then a succulent would be the way to go. If you want to go outside and plant flowers that’ll get as tall as six to ten feet, then a sunflower is your type of flower.

Succulent vs. Sunflower? I must say, succulents are starting to earn some of my respect. The succulent wins this battle. I’ll talk to you next week SUCCAs.
